In Greek, Heliopolis means "sun city" or "city of the sun." It is the Egyptian city known for the existence of the Phoenix (or Benu). The Phoenix is the mythical creature which is reborn from ashes.
Phoenix, Arizona is a city rebuilt from ruins and now America's largest capital city. Being my hometown for twenty three plus years, my fondness for it only grows. This is one of those traits that is black and white, one or the other, Phoenicians either love it or they hate it here. Not only do I wish to pay homage to my home, but to the myth of the Phoenix. As a Scorpio, the Phoenix is one of the many symbols for the sign and a fascinating one at that.
So what is this homage I wish to pay, you ask. A late night conversation with a good friend brought me to this. We discussed various blogs that display local areas around New York and how amazing they are. Which brought about the realization that there are no good blogs about Arizona, or specifically the Phoenix metropolis. I was in the middle of drafting a post for my other blog and spontaneously decided to create Heliopolis and make a damn good blog for Arizona. The beautiful sights of this city shall not be wasted.
